June Yoga Challenge Recap Week 2

June Yoga Challenge

Wow! Time really flies. I can’t believe we have already finished week 2 of this challenge.

The facts:

  • 60-min Hatha Yoga class on Saturday
  • 15-min yoga-at-home on Thursday
  • 30-min yoga-at-home on Friday

Some inspiration:

Yoga on the beach (haven’t been able to do that yet).

Will I ever master all these poses?

My thoughts:

Last week I discovered that it wasn’t as easy as I thought to incorporate yoga in my fitness schedule three times a week. I ended up swapping yoga for my usual workouts, instead of adding yoga. This week I made it my goal to do both yoga and regular fitness. So I’m sorry for not checking in more often lately, but this last week I worked hard people! I exercised almost everyday AND still managed to add yoga to my days. Which didn’t leave much time for writing I’m afraid.

The most important thing I learned this week: this fitness-yoga combo only works — for me — if I opt for a more relaxing form of yoga, like the Hatha Yoga class I followed last Saturday. Usually I tend to go for the more fast-paced Power or Ashtanga/Vinyasa Yoga, but when I’m doing a lot of HIIT and weight training I definitely do not want to add more hard work, my body just wants to relax.

What about you? Do you combine yoga and working out? And if you do, how do you prevent yourself from exhaustion?

  1. It sounds like you had such a great week of workouts! Go you! I’m the same way if I’m doing a lot of intense cardio or HITT workouts.. adding in another Power or Ashtanga class does not sound good to me AT ALL. Lately, I’ve been doing a mix of shorter/lower intensity yoga and maybe 1-2 power yoga classes a week combined with my running and it’s been going really great for the last couple of weeks!

  3. I do personal training 3 x per week and then am trying to do yoga daily. ON the days I have personal training I tend to do a more restorative yoga practise or yin. On the days where I don’t have personal training I might do something more challenging so they complement well. You can follow my progress in my 30 day challenge at http://www.redhotyogastyle.com (please note the site is in development so not the finished article). Enjoy practising!
